Reports about ‘Windows Support Center’ cold-call service (Example Entity)

Received a browser pop-up while browsing claiming my computer was infected and displaying a toll-free number for 'Windows Support Center.' Called the number out of concern; the person on the line asked me to install a remote-desktop tool, then claimed to find 'critical malware' and quoted ₹6,999 for a one-time cleanup service, payable by card over the phone. Paid the amount before realizing the pop-up and the 'diagnosis' were staged; my bank later flagged the transaction for review after I filed a dispute.
